PHOENIX (AP) - Authorities say an inmate at Arizona State Prison Complex-Lewis in Buckeye has assaulted a guard, sending at least one person to the hospital with injuries.
Arizona Department of Corrections officials say the inmate struck the staff member several times in the head and body Friday morning. Guards in a tower then fired two non-lethal rounds at the inmate before the man was restrained.
Corrections officials say the prison employee has been taken to a hospital for treatment. Details of the guard's injuries were not released.
The unit where the assault occurred was placed on lockdown.
